Tall Tales

Here is a bingo game for Bear boys working on bear achievement 4: Tall Tales.  Have the boys tell about each legend or folklore story as you play the game.  Here is the PDF version of the game.

Genus Kits

The Genius Kits is a brown bag full of odds and ends that your Scout can make into whatever he likes.  The following site has a picture of things this pack put into their Genius Kit.

I did not know you could buy Genius Kits but here is a site that sells them:  http://geniuskits.com/

eHow often has some good ideas for Genius Kits.  They give you ideas on items that can be used as a foundation, things that can connect other items together, things that can be used to give your project movement, and decorations to liven up the project.   http://www.ehow.com/info_8595757_genius-kit-ideas.html

Whatever you decide to do, KISMIF. (keep it simple, make it fun)

Disability Awareness

The World Organization of the Scout Movement says:

"There are many different forms of disability and these are often categorized as physical, which includes visual and hearing impairment as well as problems with mobility, and learning disabilities when people may need extra support for learning and social integration.

A disability becomes a handicap, when it limits a person's potential. Many people with disabilities can lead full and active lives, if they are provided with essential support. Scouting supports the development of all young people who are members of the Movement and this should include young people who have disabilities. It is also essential for the development of communities that young people recognize and respond to the needs of other members of the community who are less able. All members of the community have the right to play an active role. Developing empathy and awareness of the issue of disability is an important life skill for young people."   http://scout.org/en

Hikes

Boys love hiking and the warmer weather makes hiking a great activity.  Make sure you have some safety precautions in place such as water, first aid kit, proper clothing, etc.  Remember a tour plan and establish some rules before you head out.  Accidents are the number one cause of death in children this age.  Plan ahead to make sure you have a safe hike.

Different types of hikes are listed in the Cub Scout Leader Book and in the How To Book.  I put a list together in one place and here is the PDF version of those hikes.

Wolf Achievement 2d

Wolf Achievement 2d--Learn about the fag of your state or territory and how to display it.

I have found some great coloring page sites that give a bit of the history of each of the fifty states.  Crayola is one of those sites.  There are the 50 state flags and on each page there is either the state plant and/or state animal.  At this same site there are also flash cards of each state that include the outline of the state, the state capital, along with a couple of interesting facts about that state.  Did you know that the state of Alabama has a statue in honor of the boll weevil insect?  Well I didn't know that either until I read the interesting facts on the flash card of Alabama.  Check it out here.   http://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages/learning/social-studies/states-coloring-pages/

Here is another great site.  USA-Printables has coloring pages for each of the 50 states.  This one has pages for each of the states that include the state flag, state quarter, state postage stamp, and a couple of maps that gives some interesting demographic information about that state.   http://www.usa-printables.com/50_States/

Apples 4 the teacher state map outline coloring pages make great mouse practice activities for toddlers, preschool, and elementary children. These maps make great learning tools for students learning about their state. Print out the map outline and mark major cities, rivers, mountains and famous landmarks. There are two sets of templates - maps with no information, other than a star that marks the capital and maps that show bordering states.  These printable color sheets are a great resource for students completing a study of their state.  http://www.apples4theteacher.com/coloring-pages/usa/state-outline/
